Exceeding Expectations on a Limited Budget
Harvest for Hunger – one of the largest annual, community-wide food and funds drives in the nation – supplies local hunger-relief organizations in 21 counties in Northeast and North Central Ohio. Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank is one of four foodbanks that gang resources to produce a direct mail campaign featuring a brown paper bag.  This year, the Akron-Canton Foodbank wanted to do a follow-up mailing to this very successful package for the first time. Using a brown craft paper outer envelope to echo the original paper bag and a brief note attached to a reply form, the message reminded donors there was still time to participate in the Harvest for Hunger Campaign. The goal was a 5.5% response rate with an average gift of $49. The result, however, was a response rate 11.27% higher than projected and an average gift 15.18% higher.
